Chhath Puja- A Veneration to the Sun God

Chhath Puja is an Indian Hindu Vedic festival, celebrated in the parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh as well as some parts of Nepal. Culturally, this festival does not involve any idol worship. Rather it is a way of paying homage to the God of Sun and his two wives Usha and Sandhya, for bestowing us with the bounties of nature and a good harvest.

The rituals of this festival are quite strenuous and involve a hard fasting (vrata) of four days. During these four days, the devotees abstain from consuming any food or even water. They are required to take holy baths which include half submerging themselves in the holy water and standing in it for long periods of time. During this bath, prayers and offerings are given to the Sun God during the setting or rising sun.

This festival is observed on the Kartika Shukla Sashthi of the Gregorian English Calendar. To witness the various moments of Chhath Puja 2018, keep on watching with us.
