Q1. Please introduce yourself.
I am Atasi Kirtania, currently a final year MBBS student. My story is an open book. I come from Kalyani and had shifted to Kolkata a decade ago.
Q2. What made you start your art page? Please share what is your Instagram profile is all about and how did your journey start?
I have always loved painting. It was definitely my Plan B. After I got into college, I realized that art is that part of me which I can’t let go. It was a sudden realization that made me start with a page.
My Instagram pages are all about how I see the world which includes my everyday life. I try to portray my experiences mostly.
Q3. Is being an artist your full-time profession or do you work elsewhere? Is it possible to make out a sustainable career out of art in today’s world?
No, I am not a professional/full time artist. Art is my passion and whatever I try to create is all because of that. I am studying in a medical college right now and wish to serve people as a doctor, but again, Art is a part of me and I cannot let go of my passion.
Well, I think it is possible to make a career out of art. I do not have a shiny knowledge about this though, but I do believe, meeting correct people at the correct time brings in great exposure which helps to make a career out of it.
Q4. What would you consider your biggest achievement so far?
Getting the opportunity to serve people is definitely my biggest achievement so far, but if talking about art, I still consider my standing first in an art competition in class 3 as my biggest achievement.
Q5. What is your signature style of art that represents you as an artist? What does your work aim to say? Do you address current world scenarios through your work?
I still haven’t figured out my signature style yet. My page did grow a bit with the scribbles I made. I like to experiment with everything I have got. My work aims to reach people and give them joy. Yes, I try to portray world scenarios through my work.
Q6. What is your favourite medium to work upon? And your favourite work tools?
My favourite medium is both digital and paper. Well, favourite work tool/device is my iPad
Q7. When you start a new piece of art, how do you get the inspiration/motivation it? How long does it take approximately to finish one piece of art?
All the inspirations and motivations come from everything that is happening around me and of course my experiences. I try to portray them in the simplest ways so that i can send the message to a larger section of people. I usually take a day or two to complete an artwork.
Q8. Who are your biggest influences?
My biggest influence is the world we live in
Q9. How do you manage your family life along with other commitments and running a page?
I am still a student and haven’t yet stepped into the real world yet. Its a bit difficult to answer this question because whatever time i get after studying, i try to invest to invest in my family and art. There haven’t been any clashes so far, so yes, I am good.
Q10. What are the biggest challenges that you face as an artist? Is creative block a common problem?
Yes, creative block is one the main challenges that I face very often. Another challenge is that i face is not being able to reach people
Q11. Which current art world trends are you following, if any?
The most recent trend that I followed is the #sailormoonredraw challenge
Q12. Apart from being an artist, what are your hobbies?
Art is my hobby, so there is no second choice.
Q13. Please share your experience with different brands/projects you have worked with?
Uhm, I did work on a few projects. The positive thing about all these projects was, I learned a lot and could parallelly develop my skills. I don’t know how much I delivered but one thing that I am sure of is how much I learnt. Honestly speaking, all these were no paid work but I was okay. I had the intention of learning than earning.
Q14. There are a lot of shoddy people on social media who either try to discredit others or stalk them. How do you deal with such people or negativity in general? Does it bog you down or affect your mental peace?
Yes, it does affect my mental peace and it gets difficult to cope up and especially for those who themselves have taken a pledge to help others cope up with their problems. Staying away from social media and taking a break, is what I resort to during those days.
Q15. Would you like to give a word of advice to all the budding artists who are trying to make their mark through their art?
I am a budding artist myself, but I still want to tell others: Please be humble towards the ones who genuinely appreciates you and have patience. Art is therapy, don’t make it a competition. Help yourself and others to grow.
Q16. What are your future plans for your page and profile? Are you happy with the way it has shaped up?
I do not have a page on Facebook. I did think about making one, but making a page comes with a great responsibility of being regular. Since, i am would-be doctor, i have a world to look after, maintaining a page will become difficult in future. Maybe someday i will make a page on Facebook. I share my Artworks through my personal account though. As of now, i am trying to reach people through my insta profile.
