Q. Congratulations on winning the Durga Puja Contest 2020. How does it feel?

A. Thank you so much. Feels great. It’s wonderful getting a platform like this where we can showcase our work.

Q. Tell us a bit about yourself and what made you open an art page?

A. I am Vartika. I am from Raipur. (C.G.). I stay with my Family for now (because of covid). I am an Indian folk artist. I have been drawing for all my life, but due to studies and job, somehow I lost touch with it. I started again last year and now I am loving the way it’s going. I like listening to songs and watch movies. During the lockdown, I got a good amount of time to focus on my art and everyone liked it. They encouraged me to share it with more people and hence I opened my art page.

Q. Is being an artist your full-time profession or do you work elsewhere?

A. No. I work as Software Engineer full-time in Bengaluru.

Q. What would you consider your biggest achievement so far?

A. My biggest achievement so far would be to go to Bengaluru, struggle and get a job. For a few, it may not be a big deal. But for a girl like me, who for 21 years lived with parents and then suddenly goes to an unknown city to live independently, it is a big deal. 🙂

Q. What is your favourite medium to work upon? And your favourite work tools?

A. My favourite medium is fineliners. I feel it is best for beginners and professionals. It comes in various nib sizes and it makes the work so much easier. The other tools I work with includes acrylic colours, watercolours, brush pens, charcoal pencils.

Q. When you start a new piece of art, how do you get the inspiration/motivation it?

A. My interests are mostly Indian folk art so I try to look more into Indian Mythology and take inspiration from them. I love drawing Madhubani and Mandala, so I try to gain more info about these art forms from different sources.

Q. Who are your biggest influences?

A. Not very sure about this one, but I would say my family and friends. They encourage me to draw more and give more time to my art.

Q. Which current art world trends are you following, if any?

A. Madhubani is in trend now. People are now more interested in having these folk paintings in their home. I am trying to learn more about it. Apart from that, I find Resin art quite fascinating. Would love to learn it someday.

Q. Apart from being an artist, what are your hobbies?

A. I like singing, which I do a lot when I work on any of my drawings 😀. Apart from that, I like to cook (trying to learn).

Q. Please share your experience with different brands/projects you have worked with?

A. Since I have started this recently so there are not many projects that I have worked on but I like participating in various contests. It helps me to connect with more people and it gives me too many ideas as well. Coming to brands, I swear by Brustro for my art supplies. They have a wide range of beginners and professionals. My current favourite is their Aquarelle brush pens.

Q. There are a lot of shoddy people on social media who either try to discredit others or stalk them. How do you deal with such people or negativity in general? Does it bog you down or affect your mental peace?

A. I block them directly. There can’t be any excuse for such behaviour. At first, it used to affect me, but now I have accepted the fact that you have to deal with such people if you want to grow.

Q. What are your future plans for your page and profile? Are you happy with the way it has shaped up?

A. Yes, I am quite happy with the way it has shaped up. I got to meet alot of people with similar interest. My future plans are to collab with similar people to reach more and more audience and to focus more on my work.

Q. Lastly, any word for our blog? Thank you for your time!

A. Awesome work. Amazing platform for budding artists and photographers. It’s very helpful for artists who want their work to reach a bigger audience.

Thank you for participating in our contest and team WeekendTrivia wishes you all the best for all your future endeavours
