Ganapati Bappa Morya! – Ganesh Visarjan 2018 (Mumbai)
There is not much to say about Ganesh Chaturthi in Maharashtra. What Christmas is to the Christians, what Durga Puja is to Bengalis similarly Ganesh Chaturthi is to Marathis. The best thing about festivals of this kind is that all of them have a Universal Appeal and is celebrated worldwide. So without any further ado, let us all behold some snippets of Ganesh Visarjan 2018.

India is a diverse country where festivals and rituals are celebrated by one and all. The Ganapati is the biggest festival of Maharashtra and it marks the onset of the other Puja
Festivities that follow across the country. It was indeed a great opportunity for me to travel to Mumbai before the commencement of the festival this year and to document the same in its full fame and glory. The 10-day long event triggers off on the 4th day of Bhadrapada month and is popularly known as Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chauth. Devotees bring in the idol of the elephant God this very day and place it in their home to be worshipped over the next 10 days.
Mumbai streets are seen filled with people rather than vehicles during these 5 days and the beaches are a must visit for anyone coming here for this festival.
Picture: I happened to click this image at the Shivaji Park Chowpatty on the 5th day of the immersion. The families usually start coming in by 5pm and perform a puja right on the beach before members of the family carry the idol with them into the sea for the final
farewell. “Ganapati Bappa Morya, Purtya Varshi Laukarya” is the chant which is heard resounding on the day of bidding their favourite God goodbye and wishing for his return the following year.

Abhishek Bissa
Hello. Myself Abhishek Bissa. I hail from Jodhpur district of Rajasthan and Is currently a law student in Mumbai. I take workshops and Photowalks as well.
Picture – While everybody was busy in capturing the visarjan, this year I took a different approach… I focussed on people attending the visarjan. The excitement they have. I used a long exposure approach in this picture so as to show the continuous crowd present at the visarjan. I used a 10 STOP ND FILTER to control the light, hence getting a longer shutter speed.

Picture: The greatest God Ganapati Bappa is the favourite of all. Each and everyone likes Bappa. Bappa is placed in heart of each and every person, from a small child to the oldest people. If any new work is started people first take the name of Bappa. In the Ganeshotsav, lots of people celebrate the Bappa festival. They lose their tension n workload. They enjoy the Ganesh festival. The sad person also gets happy in these 10 days of Bappa festival. Bappa makes the smile on our face. I don’t know if God exists or not but I feel God is everywhere, our Bappa is everywhere. After the 10 days of the Ganesh Utsav when Bappa has gone to their village, we say Ganpati Bappa pudhacha varshi lavkar ya. Ya really Bappa, lavkar ya because of u I smile, I laugh, I enjoy and I lose my tension like each person who celebrates Ganeshotsav from there bottom of the heart. Love you Bappa

The colourful and joyous festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most important festivals of the country mythological and culturally. This 10 Days festival is celebrated in Mumbai with great enthusiasm. Being a cultural festival Ganesh Chaturthi brings people of a different caste, creed, and religions come together to. The starting of the festival is called Ganesh Chaturthi and the 10th and the last day of this festival are called Ganesh Visarjan and also goes by the name of Anant Chaturdashi.

Rohan Anant Halankar
Hey Everyone !!
This is Rohan Halankar from Mumbai. I am a freelance and hobbyist photographer.
Since childhood, I used to click Ganpati Festival Pictures. Every year I visited Lalbaug in Mumbai for the Ganpati visarjan procession. The Visarjan takes place at various places in Mumbai. One of the places I visited was Girgaum Chowpatty. During Ganpati Visarjan, there is a different atmosphere in Mumbai altogether. People come from each and every corner of the country to witness it. The colours and the overall energy makes the visarjan procession lively. This time I wanted to click something different so I entered deep in the water at Girgaum Chowpatty with my GoPro and my mobile phone.
Picture – I managed to click one picture with my GoPro where people from their respective pandaal were splashing water on Ganesha’s idol before bidding adieu. What made the picture truly mesmerizing for me was when the people carrying out the visarjan started splashing water on the idol and the light of the setting sun made the water sparkle. It was breathtaking and I had to get a shot.

These larger than life idols and their beauty and the whole process related with the visarjan feel so close to home. India is very diverse and culturally vibrant. This annual tradition of bringing Bappa home, and then the on-going celebration for 10 days is deep-rooted in culture.
Ganpati will come, vanquish all evil, and leave us to spread love, happiness and cheer amongst all. With this belief, the people of Maharashtra are ready to welcome their beloved Ganapati for the next year!
Happy Saturday Folks!
