Q: Congratulations for becoming the photographer of the month, how does it feel?
I feel so honored to be the photographer of the month, and that my work is been well accepted it. Thank you!
Q. Would you kindly introduce yourself to our reader? What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My name is Carolina Garibay. I’m 27 years old and I born in Mexico, but I live in Canada for 13 years. I took photography at Niagara College Canada from 2012- 2014. Two years program. I learned a lot from it and since then I been doing photography. I consider that my greatest achievement in Photography is that I explore so many new ideas and able to show my work in a lot of places. I like the freedom I have to express myself thought my photography without been afraid to show my work.
Q. What attracts you to your genre? Whose work has influenced you most?
What attracts me to my genre, is that is very strong and very creative. One of my biggest influence in photography is Francesca Woodman. She was an Italian photographer artist who photographed herself and showed a lot of emotions through her work.
Q. Is it important to have any professional training to be a photographer? Did you have any at the time you set of your journey?
I do think it is important to have training in photography. Specially with lighting, as a lot photographers know, lighting is the most important thing in photography. However, been creative is another big part of it and there is a lot of people that have this without knowing any photography skills. I personally can say, that thanks to my studied photography, I have better skills and better knowledge in photography. Yes, I had a lot of training in photography after I graduated from my photography program. I always looking for new things to improve my art.
Q: When you go in one of your photo-shoot which one is your favorite lens and why do you prefer it?
My camera is a very simple camera that takes the best advantage. The best lens I like to work with, is the one from my NIKON D3200, 18-55mm. I prefer this one because I like to have a more open frame in my photos where I can show more of the composition around the object.
Q. How do you as a photographer make sure that the thing, person or landscape you want to shoot looks the way you want it to?
The way I like to make sure that the person or model or objects are the way I like, is that I think of the photo in my head first. I like to work on the composition and lighting.
Q. What would you think make a picture stand out in such huge group?
I think the creativity, the idea, the composition, the lighting, the imagination that the photographer puts into the photo, will make their photo to stand up more. Thinking out of the box is an amazing expression because when someone thinks so different from others, this will reflect in their work and of course, art itself works that way.
Q. A “Good Camera can make a Picture perfect” do you believe this myth?
I do not believe that a good camera makes a good photo. Your camera is only your tool that will help you to capture your creativity. Good photography equipment, of course, is also important as professional photographer. However, your camera doesn’t make the photo.
Q: How important is to know a place before you go out for shoot? What are the challenges that faced so far?
I personally, I never have a problem with the places I pick for my photos. Most of the photos are taking in my home or in my studio. However, I do think getting to know the place where you will be shooting, will help you to do the things safety and know the place to know how to work around it.
Q: In a picture is “Digital manipulation” really require to make it perfect?
I think Digital manipulation should be the last thing to do to the photograph. It’s important to take the photo as good as you can from the camera. Digital manipulation is also fun and you can create great art with it. Also if you know how to use it and not abuse it as much.
Q: Which post processing software you use for your pictures?
The software that I use the most is Photoshop.
Q: Nowadays almost everyone has access to devices with which it is possible to take pictures. What do you think is the difference between a professional photographer and any other amateur photographer?
I think everybody that has a camera nowadays and knows how to do photography they’re also photographers. The difference is that probably the professional one went to school or had more opportunity to get more knowledge for their work. But both are important.
Q: Any suggestions to your fellow members how could they improve and become a POM too?
My suggestions for the members is that keep working on their photography and keep sharing their work and always think out of the box. (THINK DIFFERENT) Thank you so much BONG for this great Opportunity.
