Q: Congratulations for becoming the photographer of the month, how does it feel?
Thank you so much! I feel honored to be photographer of the month!
Q. Would you kindly introduce yourself to our reader? What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My name is Panagiotis Grammatikakis, Pan for easier
I am from Greece and 42 years old. I am a self taught photographer and I mostly like conceptual photography where you can create your scenery..not just shoot.
My greatest achievement in photography was last year when National Geographic published 3 of my photos.
Q. What attracts you to your genre? Whose work has influenced you most?
Conceptual photography is the one that I like most…and I don’t think I am influenced by anyone particular…but nature and life!
Q: When you go in one of your photo-shoot which one is your favorite lens and why do you prefer it?
My favourite lens is by far sigma 17-50 2,8 . I think you can do just about everything with that lens!
Q. How do you as a photographer make sure that the thing, person or landscape you want to shoot looks the way you want it to?
I don’t think I will ever be sure about it..because its all about emotion..and you just have to capture it. So I just let myself feel and not try to find the best click but let myself click without thinking
Q. What would you think make a picture stand out in such huge group?
I think that a photo stand out by the emotion that make you feel when you first see it
Q. A “Good Camera can make a Picture perfect” do you believe this myth?
No..a good camera helps someone to make good quality images but It will never make a good photo. Emotion make a good photo not a camera!
Q: How important is to know a place before you go out for shoot? What are the challenges that faced so far?
I think it is very important to feel the place..not exactly know it. I always take my time to feel the environment I will be shooting..to let it touch me. My biggest challenge is always when I don’t have that kind of time to get in touch with the place and have to do a job quickly. I try not to do that.
Q: In a picture is “Digital manipulation” really require to make it perfect?
I think that digital manipulation is needed yes..but just to make small changes. I am personally against photoshop use in order to change what you shoot. I encourage changes in colors..contrast and crop …but never in deleting items or adding things that weren’t there..like clouds..lightnings..effects etc You are supposed to make them before the shoot or during it. Many people use photoshop to make their work better..But I think that this is not photography …it is graphic design. Photography is the moment..the feeling ..so if you change what you shot..then its not photography anymore.
Q: Which post processing software you use for your pictures?
I only use lightroom so far.
Q: Nowadays almost everyone has access to devices with which it is possible to take pictures. What do you think is the difference between a professional photographer and any other amateur photographer?
I think that the only difference is that a professional is the one that makes his living by photography. And that only.
Q: Any suggestions to your fellow members how could they improve and become a POM too?
My suggestion is to let yourself feel before taking picture..to close your eyes..to try to imagine what you would like to shoot. And just let yourself do the work..but not your mind..no thinking during the shooting
