As most of you must know, WeekendTrivia hosts an annual Durga Puja contest every year and this year the contest was divided into two categories – Photography and Art. We received an overwhelming response from all of you and we are immensely grateful for that.
Today we are interviewing the Winner – 1st Runners up of the Photography category : Litan Das. You can follow him on Instagram – @litan.das94. Please read on to know more about him.
We thank our photography judge – Sanjoy Sengupta (@sanjoysengupta) and our Sponsor – Bong Photography for helping and supporting us in this endeavour
Q. Congratulations!!! It must feel good to beat other 650+ pictures and 100+ other fellow participants… Can you please give your introduction to our viewers?
A: First of all I would like to thank you for selecting my photograph. Myself Litan Das, I am an independent photographer based on Kolkata. By Profession, I am an IT Professional working in MNC from the last couple of years. Taking photographs was a hobby; it began as a tool to preserve the memories. With time it grew up, for me, photographs are the only way of expressing emotions, thoughts and realizing the subconscious mind. This makes me take the practice of taking photos more seriously.
Q. If you don’t know let us tell you we have posted 20 interviews of famous photographers on our blog. How does it feel to be interviewed on the same platform with them?
A: It is a great privilege and honour for me. Previously I have seen a couple of photographer’s interviews on the different digital platform. So it’s really a good feeling for me to experience the same. Thank you so much for this opportunity.
Q. What is your favorite genre of photography and why?
A: My favourite genre of Photography is Travel & Documentary photography. The reason like it most because Travel photography also involves a couple of areas like landscape, people, culture & History. The interesting part is photographing people from a different culture is really fun. According to me, I believe this is the perfect genre of photography to capture the story.
Q. Which gear you use? For how long you are doing it?
A: I am using Nikon D7500 with Wide-angle lens Tokina 11-16 mm. Recently I have upgraded my camera body from Nikon D7100 to Nikon D7500.
Q. Do you want to take photography as your prime profession or is it already your profession?
A: Very honest with you making a career in the world of photography is very difficult for people like me. Being a member of the middle class my first priority was finding a good job. So photography is an only passion as of now.
Q. In the next five years where do you want to see yourself in photographic world?
A: I will guide to a new young photographer who just steps in the world of photography because there are a lot of people misguide to new photographers in result they lose hope in photography & leave their passion.
Q. Whom do you admire the most in photography world and why?
A: Steve McCurry is one of my favourite photographers. His composition is amazing. Learn a lot of thing from his tutorial available on the internet.
Q. What are/is your biggest achievement so far?
A: Till now I have received a lot of recognition & award from different Photography contest & Exhibition as well. I cannot consider them to my biggest achievement. Still, I am looking forward to something big, at the same time also working on my skill.
Q. What do you want to say to the other budding photographers?
A: Nowadays I can see a race of buying expensive photography gears, instead of upgrading knowledge & skill. So I want to tell them please focus on skill. Most important do practice every day with whatever the gears you have may b a DSLR or Smartphone. In world photography, your vision is everything, not your gears.
Q. Have you visited our blog yet? What do you think of it?
A: Yes, I did. This is an excellent platform for photographer like us.
Thank you for participating in our contest and team WeekendTrivia wishes you all the best for all your future endeavours
