Q. Congratulations on winning the Botanical Artwork Contest. How does it feel?
It feels great! This is the first time I have won a contest after starting my art page, and to be selected as the winner among so many talented artists feels incredible.
Q. Tell us a bit about yourself and what made you open an art page?
Art is like a therapy to me. I have been into art and crafting since childhood, but I never thought of putting my work out to the world and perhaps make a profession out of it, because I always felt that people might not like my artworks.
It all started during the lockdown period, being bored at home and getting inspired by art accounts on Instagram when I thought, “Why don’t I do this too?” And that’s how I started my art account, and it’s one of the best things that happened during these tough times.
Q. Is being an artist your full-time profession or do you work elsewhere?
I am an IT Engineer by profession. I have done my B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering, and have been working in Cognizant for a year now.
Q. What would you consider your biggest achievement so far?
It has been roughly four months of me starting my art page hence so far, I think winning this Contest has been my biggest achievement. It has given me the confidence that I had been lacking earlier and the motivation to be more creative.
Q. What is your favourite medium to work upon? And your favourite work tools?
Currently, my favourite medium is gouache. I have always used Water Colour and Acrylics, but once I started using gouache, I loved it immediately. It gives the flexibility of watercolours and the opacity of acrylics.
My favourite tools are the flat brushes and mop brushes.
Q. When you start a new piece of art, how do you get the inspiration/motivation it?
I usually go by theme. I either take inspirations from Pinterest or try to recreate an actual photo.
Painting calms me. When I am too tired doing office work, I would take a break in between and paint something, or after a long day of work I would relax myself with a painting, and it always works!
Q. Who are your biggest influences?
Every artist has a unique style of painting and I can get inspirations from any artwork I see. But I think someone who is worth mentioning here is Nikhat Sheikh(@nikhatillustrations) as she was the person who inspired me to start my own art account.
Q. Which current art world trends are you following, if any?
I do not follow any specific trend. If I see something I like, I would try experimenting with it.
Q. Apart from being an artist, what are your hobbies?
I am into interior décor and designing. I love creating Pinterest boards of various interior designs and DIY décor items. If I am not painting, I would be doing some DIY with random stuffs lying around in my house.
Q. Please share your experience with different brands/projects you have worked with?
As I mentioned earlier, its not been a long time that I have started my art page, hence I haven’t worked on any big projects yet, but I am looking forward to it.
Q. There are a lot of shoddy people on social media who either try to discredit others or stalk them. How do you deal with such people or negativity in general? Does it bog you down or affect your mental peace?
Luckily, I have not been subjected to such situations as of now. The people I know of are very supportive of me.
Q. What are your future plans for your page and profile? Are you happy with the way it has shaped up?
I plan to continue my work and grow my profile. I want my page and my talent to be recognised by more people and brands, so that someday I can make this my full-time profession.
Q. Lastly, any word for our blog? Thank you for your time!
Thank you guys once again for choosing me as the winner and for this wonderful opportunity! Your articles are so fun and engaging, so continue inspiring us. I wish you all the success in the future!
